Going Green

Beautiful trees surround our office and we would like to keep it that way. With their constant reminder of the beauty of the environment PDi understands the importance of protecting the environment. With this, we have begun Thinking Green and are being mindful of the environment by remembering to conserve, recycle and reuse.

PDi is going to start a FTP site soon in hopes to limit the use of paper and CDs. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It enables the owners to upload files to an "online filing cabinet" and the owners clients are able to access the information anywhere and anytime simply by going to the FTP site. By implementing this accessible-anywhere system, PDi will not have to print copies of the information and mail it to the clients nor will it be necessary to create multiple CDs to give to clients and back up the information. Another great advantage for the clients in using an FTP site is instant gratification. No longer will clients have to wait for FedEx to deliver their papers or CDs. Instead, once the work is finished it will be uploaded to the site and can instantly be looked at by the client. FTP sites conserve not only paper but valuable time as well.

Our printers are also thinking green and alerting us of their new paper products which have forest and environmental certifications and various percentages of recycled materials. Printers nowadays have also begun using soy based inks which are easier on the environment than the harsh chemicals in most inks, with little or no difference in price.

Maintaining an environment friendly office is easy to achieve especially when our two walls of windows present us with a beautiful display of greenery. A constant reminder of what we are trying to protect.

Attack of The BLOG!!!!!!!

Wow... just when I think I'm tech savvy for having finally programmed my universal TV remote, here came the blog.

"Eek... what is it?!
," you might say. Me,too.

Well in layman's term, blog is short for web log. Basically, A blog is a journal that is available on the web. The activity of updating a blog is “blogging” and someone who keeps a blog is a “blogger.” So,it is not as scary as we thought but it still looks a little funny.

As I thought about it more I began to wonder... where did the blog come from and why has it become such a integral part of communication these days? This short video should help.

Still feeling a little skeptical, I immersed myself in tips trying to find the best approach to tackling the blog beast and writing a post of my very own. (That's right folks, I'm first-timer and lucky for you, these things have spell check.)

Here are a few tips I found but didn't follow:

1. Write on a subject that you are knowledgeable in and are good at.

2. Try to be consistent with the length and regularity of your blogs so your audience has some idea of when to visit and what to expect.
3. Think about your writing style, be informative and polite.
4. Let your blog reflect your personality. Give your opinions with respect and be honest.
5. Remember to copy your new content to the clipboard before you post. If something goes wrong, you can just paste and try again.

Hopefully, like me, you can now find the courage to begin blogging on your own. As a matter of fact, I invite you...no, I challenge you to conquer the longing to be anonymous and find your voice here.

Please comment. I'll will post again next week.
Is my post helpful? Want to suggest a post topic?

Let 'er rip 'cause we are listening!
